Storytime #23 - Social Support / Skills: How to Be a Supportive Friend to Someone With Dyslexia
My Issue as an important subject to others like me.
I’m sorry, I didn’t post this before; but, it’s sometimes frustrating, because sometimes wished I didn’t have a learning disability and be normal like everyone else. However, it’s an important post as seriously subject of mine to socialize with other people or friends.
I was born premature (1 pound, 2 oz.) on February 20, 1986. I was supposed to be born on sometime in Summer of 1986, (on the same day and month in June - as both of my parents.) But, my mother had lost two miscarriages before me. - So, I was very lucky to be alive until this point - to explain my life to other people from this blog site.
From most of my childhood/grammer school years, I went to three different schools, (Rock Chapel Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, and Redan Elementary) around my area in Lithonia, Georgia. (I don’t remember very much of being born until my toddler years, living in Atlanta, Georgia; for my first 5 years of my life.)
I was very, sometime different for me; to be in a Special ED. Classroom with other students, and was hard to understand or make friends during that time. Then, I went to middle school, Stephenson Middle School; with a better chance to understand my social skills with others. Then, in high school; I have experienced some more things as possible to be a better person. However; it took me, a year to get my high diploma, after I graduated from Stephenson High School. Then, after high school, it took me, another two more years, prepare for my first college journey in 2008.
It was frustrating, to learn after I entered my first college: Georgia Perimeter College, for one semester; I was rejected, because I was ashamed and embarrassed to tell that college about my learning disability. So, I was transferred to another college, next door, Dekalb Technology(Tech.) College. And explain my learning disability to them. Then after maybe a year or two, there; I transferred again into my current college, Chattahoochee Technology(Tech.) College in 2010 - present time and told them too.
I’m also working on returning again, next year; in the field of study on majoring: Design and Media Production.
